A Pair of Detentions in the Aftermath of Heathrow Irritant Spray Attack
An additional two individuals are now in custody in connection with a theft at Heathrow Airport in which 21 people sustained injuries by a substance believed to be an irritant spray, as stated by law enforcement.
A man, 24, was arrested in the Lambeth area on suspicion of robbery and assault and a 23-year-old woman was arrested for suspected conspiracy to commit robbery. They both remain in custody, the force said.
The arrests come after an investigation into an attack at the multi-storey car park at Heathrow's Terminal 3 this past Sunday. Prior to the incident, two women had stolen from them their suitcases after getting out of a car park lift.
A toddler aged three was one of the those hurt during the incident. A total of five individuals were taken to the hospital for treatment and were later released.
Officers detained a man in his thirties on suspicion of robbery and assault near the location. He has since been released pending further inquiries as the investigation proceeds.
Police were alerted at about 8:10 in the morning GMT after reports came in regarding several people injured by an irritating chemical believed to be pepper spray.
The attack - which police said was isolated and not considered terrorism - caused delays to rail services and the partial closure of the main airport tunnel and the T3 parking facility briefly.
